Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as general reporter. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. Then, in 1992 she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She was on the panel during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms in addition to the arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
